ABOUT LA BRODERIE

'A PERFECT BLEND OF SOUNDS'

The words of Louis XIV's favourite flautist Michel de la Barre described in 1702 the warm and vibrant combination of boxwood flute, viola da gamba and theorbo still captivating audiences today in the performances of La Broderie.

French music with its elegant, quirky dance rhythms is at the heart of La Broderie 's music-making, along with masterpieces and little-known gems of renaissance and baroque chamber music, transporting audiences to the dazzling courts of Paris and Berlin , the earthy coffee houses and theatres of London , the misty Scottish highlands and the far corners of Bohemia .

La Broderie tours internationally and in the United States . Tour highlights include Dutch, English and Scottish 'Early Music Network' tours, concerts and broadcasts for the prestigious BBC London Proms and for BBC Wales in Cardiff Castle, performances and workshops at Valtice and Prague in the Czech Republic, Edinburgh's Georgian Concert Society, The Geffreye Museum in London, Chamber Music Columbus, master classes at The Ohio State University, Indiana University Early Music Institute and Nancy Hadden's own summer school, The Edinburgh Flute Course.

THE MUSICIANS OF LA BRODERIE

Nancy Hadden is renowned for flute playing of extraordinary flair and expressiveness, engaging programmes and communicative and inspiring teaching.   Her almost single-handed revival of the renaissance flute and award-winning CDs from the renaissance, baroque and classical periods prove again and again that her playing on the hauntingly expressive and agile wooden flute captivates audiences and wins accolades for 'passion and consummate artistry' (Boston Chrestalogia Magazine) and 'breathtaking virtuosity' (Los Angeles Times).

Born in Columbus , Ohio , her musical training began at the age of 6.   While studying for degrees in modern flute, voice, and music history she was captivated by   the tone quality and flexibility of the wooden baroque flute;   she taught herself to play it   before moving to England in 1978.   She has travelled the world to perform in major music festivals and for broadcasts throughout Europe and North America, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Bahamas, as a member of the Julian Bream Consort, Tragicomedia, The Harp Consort, and Circa 1500 which she directs.   She teaches at the Guildhall School of Music in London , is completing a PhD at the University of Leeds and directs her own Edinburgh Flute Course every summer.

Erin Headley lives in London , the base over twenty-five years for her international career as a viola da gamba and lirone player. Concerts and over one hundred major label recordings have taken her all over Europe, the Far East, and North America as a member-director of Tragicomedia and Tirami Su and with Les Arts Florissants, The Boston Early Music Festival and many other ensembles. She directs the Baroque Performance Program at the Music Conservatory in Malmö , Sweden , as well as annual staged baroque opera productions in Sweden and Denmark .

Lucas Harris , now based in Toronto , has been in increasing demand as a lutenist since completing his European studies in 1998. He has given solo recitals on the New York Early Music Series and at the Festival Lamèque and regularly performs with numerous prominent ensembles, including Tafelmusik , New York Collegium and the Smithsonian Chamber Players. Lucas is on the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory's Baroque Performance Institute and has taught for the New York Continuo Collective and Amherst Early Music Festival.
