The Edinburgh Flute Course 2004
July 18 - 24
Renaissance and Baroque Flute Workshop
Director David Nicholson
with
NANCY HADDEN
The Edinburgh Flute Course: a week of early flute study in the beautiful
city of Edinburgh with internationally renowned renaissance and baroque
flautist Nancy Hadden.
The course is annually open to players of renaissance and baroque flutes;
course participants can do either or both. Some renaissance flutes are
available for use. Nancy Hadden coaches renaissance consorts and baroque
ensembles as well as daily master classes for prepared solos. There
are informal daily 'coffee concerts' for optional performance opportunities.
Steve Player offers sessions on playing baroque dance music. Insights
from a dancer about points of style, phrasing, tempo offer another dimension
to playing the music. Study the French allemande, courante, sarabande,
gavotte, minuet, gigue, and J.S. Bach Partita BWV 1013 and Orchestral
Suite in B minor BWV 1067. Teaching sessions take place each morning,
afternoon and early evening, with some afternoon/evening free times
for sight-seeing and informal playing. The course ends after breakfast
on Saturday morning.
Harpsichordist Lucy Carolan and viol player Erin Headley are in residence
for coaching and accompanying.
